Walshaw came out on top in the battle of Bury to stay on the tails of Bolton Association leaders Daisy Hill.

Rob Faulkner's side beat lowly neighbours Elton by 14 runs to ensure they kept pace in a weekend where all the top teams registered victories.

Mark Dentith top-scored with 49 as Walshaw racked up 186-9 batting first, with Simon Donnelly (4-75) and Steve Holt (3-66) impressing with the ball.

Elton made a good fist of their reply, but fell agonisingly short as Walshaw pro Jon Fielding continued his fine season by taking 6-75. Skipper Faulkner returned 4-66 as the Leigh Laners were finally bundled out for 172.
