Walshaw Sports Club have moved swiftly to replace first team coach Phil Porter, who has decided to step down this season to concentrate on playing.
They have recruited former Pretswich Heys assistant manager John Hunter, who worked with the late Adie Moran in Heys’ meteoric rise to the top of the amateur scene in the North-west and took over the chairman’s role after the death of the former manager.
A Walshaw spokesman said: “John will bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to a club who are looking to make a serious impact in the top flight of amateur football this season.”
This Saturday, Walshaw travel to Hyde United for their first pre-season game. The match will be played at Curzon Ashton, kick-off 2.30pm.
Pre-season training continues on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and players interested can call Steve or Malc on 07939 213575 or 07796 433778.
