ROUNDERS: Elton Vale B’s hopes of mounting a serious title challenge in Bury and District Rounders League were dealt a severe blow when they were defeated, ironically by their own A team 86-109.
Fishpool A took full advantage of this slip and their own innings victory over Brown Cow eases them into a four- point lead at the top.
Ramsbottom Ladies’ comfortable win over St Mary’s A 206-120 sees them clear in third position and beggining to exert pressure on the Vale in the fight for honours. Redvales and Swan Ladies A are currently locked together at the foot of this division, but Unsworth CC cannot relax.
Roach Ladies all but saw off the challenge of one of their main rivals in Division Two with a 137-89 home win over St Mary’s C. The leaders are now four points clear of St Mary’s, but another fine win for Bury Felt A, sees them separating the two, in second spot just two points behind Roach.
Just a couple of weeks ago, no-one could be blamed for virtually writing off Brocks X1 B in this division, but a thrilling knife edge victory at Cricketers 112-115, sees them move off bottom spot and gives them a fighting chance of survival.
In Division Three, leaders All Rounders A now hold a massive eight point lead, with an unblemished 11 wins from 11 record, and only a disastorous end to the season will see them fail to gain promotion. Behind them there are no fewer than five teams who are still in with a chance of the second promotion spot, while the remaining four must all battle to avoid relegation.
In Division Four, Elton CC and Elton Youth A are strong favourites, both managing further innings wins. While, Maccabi, and Bury Felt B must both be careful, it is looking like any two from Elton Vale C, Elton Vale D and Peelers for relegation. In the fifth division, Radcliffe Boro JFC remain undefeated following their 178-147 win over Ainsworth C, but the division’s closest game came at St Joseph’s where without- a-win All Saints A led at half-time against Wren Ladies, but were unable to hold on, eventually going down 165-180.
Unbeaten Sunset Ladies of Division Six go marching on with Exodus becoming their latest victims 111-183. High scoring was the game in this division this week with each of the four other games producing the best part of 400 points or more.
In Division, Seven Westbury now hold a two point advantage, but second placed Elton Vale E have a game in hand on the leaders, The Laundry Room who are currently third. These girls are putting together a tremendous amount of big scores in recent weeks. The league’s two youngest sides met at Newbank where Elton Vale Juniors beat White Boar Juniors 231-259 .
Support is needed at Elton Vale Road for the next few weeks as Bury try to overcome a 3-1 deficit to Bolton after the away legs of this year’s interleague series. The home legs start tomorrow, Friday, when the veterans take on their Bolton counterparts, with a 7pm start.
