Elton Vale FC have been promoted to the Premier Division of the Manchester League.
The decision follows a breach of league rules by two of last season’s Premier League teams, who failed to finish the season with active reserve teams.
The decision is a massive boost to Vale, who missed out on automatic promotion from Divison One, by finishing third.
The shake-up now means that Wigan Robin Park and Irlam have been promoted from the Manchester League to the North West Counties Division Two, while two clubs have been relegated.
The step-up may be due to a technicality, but Elton management say that their relegation four seasons ago was tainted by a twist of the very same rule. They believe a return to the top flight by a ruling in their favour somehow seems just.
Elton play their first friendlies this weekend away against Rossendale Amateurs and next Saturday entertain they Ramsbottom United at Elton Vale Road (2.30pm).
Training continues at Elton Vale Road at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact Phil Hartley for information 07966 430027.
