WALSHAW paraded several new players, but came away from their opening game of the season in Tyldesley with an impressive win. Passes were going astray and the Hindsford midfield had the upper hand ealry on, culminating in a well-taken goal after a flowing passing move.
This seemed to spark the visitors into life and they started to give the home side the runaround.
Walshaw could have been level on 25 minutes, after a sweet move involving Nic Carr, Lee Chapmen, and Mike Neary, saw the latter cross for Russ Brierley, who headed home, but the effort was disallowed for offside.
Justice was done five minutes later when Ashford Blake caused havoc in the home side’s box with the keeper bringing him down for a penalty, which Brierley duly converted.
Walshaw could have been in front before the interval, but Neary elected for power rather than precision and the teams went in level at the break.
The start of the second period saw Hinsdford press the visitors back for 10 minutes, but Walshaw hit back with Danny Goodall narrowly missing with a spectacular effort on the left flank.
The home side were reduced to 10 men when the home midfielder slapped Brierley. That was the signal for Walshaw to up it a gear and they went in front when Blake again caused havoc in the home defence and Neary scored from close range.
The same provider gave Brierley a brace on 75 minutes and the game was all over bar the shouting. Walshaw’s defence had a few tense moments in the final period but held firm for that all important first three points of the campaign.
