ELTON’S poor form on artificial surfaces continued with another defeat.
Elton’s best chance fell to Tom Stubbs, who was played in by Dave Malius. His shot beat the keeper, but the effort flew past the far post.
The home side gradually hauled themselves into the game, but after a couple of attacks at the Elton end, a fast moving break saw Doran beat the Manchester defence, slotting coolly past the goalkeeper.
Within minutes East were level after a free-kick from Keegan allowed Wright a free run on goal.
Disaster struck again when a deep free-kick was nodded down at the back post and scrambled in by Stanley to put the hosts 2-1 up.
Elton went further behind after seven minutes of the second half when Wright beat the Vale offside trap. Kenyon advanced and forced him wide but his pass was converted by Byrnes.
The game deteriorated into aerial warfare for a long spell and, although Elton did get more possession as the game progressed, they never really looked like converting any of the few chances created.
It got worse for Vale with the last move of the match when Kays slotted home East Manchester’s fourth.
Elton’s reserve side were beaten 6-1 by Wythenshawe Amateurs with Lee Gaskell’s goal their only consolation.
