WALSHAW had a mixed week with a brilliant 4-0 victory over Prestwich Heys followed by a 2-1 defeat at Sacred Heart.

Walshaw were on the front foot against local rivals Prestwich from the moment a mix-up between goalkeeper and defender gifted Walshaw an opener on 20 minutes.

Dave Berry grabbed a hat-trick and Ryan Nowak scored the other on his return from a two-month injury lay-off.

Things did not go quite so much their way against Sacred Heart in Rochdale in the second round of the LFA Shield.

The Bury boys conceded an early goal which had a big suspicion of offside, then saw a seemingly legitimate goal wiped out.

Ten minutes before half-time the game erupted in controversy. Russ Brierley appeared to be kicked in the head and the referee took no action against the offender, apart from awarding Walshaw a free-kick.

Walshaw went two goals down from a debatable penalty and pulled one back through Russ Brierley from close range on the stroke of half-time.

On Saturday Walshaw play Chapel Town at home, 2pm kick off.
