The ladies first team suffered their first league defeat of the season on Saturday as they crashed to a 2-1 defeat at rivals Bolton. A slow start saw the hosts capitalise on some misplaced Bury passing, and take an early lead. Although Bury improved as the half wore on, a goal against the run of play shortly before half time gave Bolton a two-goal cushion.

The second half was a different story however, with Bury taking a stranglehold on the game as Jennifer Matthews, Joanne Long and Sally Marsden combined well in midfield, and the Bury passing began to find its mark. Bury flooded forward, and the increased pressure brought some panicked defending from Bolton, which the visitors capitalised on. When Beth Topping found herself one-on-one with the keeper, a deft touch took the ball through to Lisa Davies who turned the ball into the empty net.

Bury spent the remainder of the game camped in the Bolton half. But despite several short corners and numerous dangers crosses into the circle, Bury were unable to find the equaliser that their play deserved.
