A budding cyclist from Bury Cycle Speedway Club has been awarded the North West’s Go-ride young volunteer of the year by British Cycling.

Danny Taylor, pictured, aged 15, has been riding for the club for four years, and the award is to reflect all the hard work he has put in. “It’s unusual for youngsters to be volunteers,” said club official John Whiting.

“Danny has tremendous talent as a rider and has also taken on the reins of announcer on several occasions.

“He is a confident lad and does a good job at the announcing, which at the age of 15, is great. Danny’s family are very much involved with the club. He is looking forward to the new season and has been a leading light in pre-season training.”

Bury met with the Astley and Tyldesley and Sheffield clubs recently as preparations begin in earnest for the British Finals on August Bank Holiday Monday. A positive meeting saw all clubs pleased with the initial discussions and actions.

Bury Cycle Speedway is a self-financing organisation and is on lookout for sponsors.
