Bury Ladies 1st 1 Bolton Ladies 2nds 4

With keeper Danni Hurst, captain Natalie Scully and influential midfielder Sally Marsden all missing on Saturday, Bury faced a difficult task against local rivals Bolton in Division Two of the Greater Manchester Ladies Hockey League.

The home side took the lead after 10 minutes, as Becky Loonan’s deflected shot found the net.

However, two quick goals from Bolton on the break, changed the game.

As Bury pushed for an equaliser they began to leave gaps at the back and eventually Bolton capitalised to make it 3-0 at the break.

The second half was a different story however, as the home side laid siege to the Bolton goal throughout the remainder of the game. Unfortunately a fine display from the Bolton keeper, and some less than fluent set pieces, saw Bury fail to capitalise on their dominance.

Once again, the home side were unfortunate as a quick Bolton counter attack caught them short at the back, as the visitors grabbed a fourth and final goal. This result leaves Bury’s promotion hopes in the balance as they are now level on points with third place Heaton, who they play next Saturday.
