Bury opened their Summer League campaign last Thursday with a comfortable, if somewhat rusty, 2-0 victory over hosts Preston.

Two James Oakes goals were enough to seal the win, although Bury were disappointed not to score more as they created numerous openings in both halves, but failed to make the most of their opportunities.

At the other end, Rob Fogwill produced some good saves when called upon in the first half, as Bury started a little slowly.

However, the eight-man squad soon found their rhythm with Piers Smith-Hughes, Simon Major and Rob Bradburn combining well to create goalscoring opportunities, while skipper Tariq Sheikh and Ian Hillary kept the Preston attack quiet for the majority of the game.

Bury move on to a much tougher challenge when they face Leyland and Chorley next week.
