WALMER’S mixed teams enjoyed a good week in the Bolton Tennis League with all three sides undefeated.

In Division One, the mixed A team were involved in a notoriously tough fixture at David Lloyd in Chorley, and played the closest of matches as the points were shared.

They established a small lead in the mixed section with wins from Rick Morley and Gail Blackburn, 6-3, Paul Biggins and Hattie Morley, 6-4 and Mike Davies and Marina Hodson 6-2.

The hosts clawed back the lead with 4-6, 6-5 results from Morley and Biggins while Gooddy and Davies lost 4-6, 0-6. The match was evenly poised when Lisa and Gail scored 3-6 6-2. After a 6-2 win, Dianne and Hattie started the last set with Walmer one game behind but a 6-5 win saw the match drawn.

The mixed B team were at home to David Lloyd (Bolton) B and always in the lead in their Division Three fixture with wins in the mixed section from Graham Jebb and Dianne Hardman, 6-0, Raj Rhaman and Pam Leach, 6-1, Andy and Sophie Parton, 6-5 and Phil and Kate Mansfield, 6-3. The men and ladies then scored heavily in their sections with the loss of just one set to see Walmer to a victory by 71-30.

The mixed C team were also at home to Barrow Bridge B in Division Five. The match was tight throughout but the mixed pairs of Bruce Hardman and Jill Ashworth, Brian Richards and Elle Ward, Dominic Siddall and Megan Suthurst and Keith Fairhurst and Beryl Richards established an early lead.

The visitors had an unbeaten first pair when Richards and Hardman scored 6-1 2-6, and Fairhurst and Siddall 1-6 6-1, but Ward and Suthurst and Ashworth and Richards added the games needed to see Walmer to a vital win by nine games.

Walmer men’s A team did not fare so well at home to David Lloyd in Division One with Adam Gooddy and Mike Davies their only scorers in a defeat by 1/2-8, 1/2.

In Division Two, Walmer mens B team had an emphatic win at Longsight A with Dave Gerrard and Steve Routledge, Phil Mansfield and Andy Parton and Graham Jebb and Stew Hardy dominating the home side to win 8-1.

Walmer C were hosts to Chorley B in Division Six with the match in the balance throughout. Raj Rhaman and Julian Nuttall opened at 6-6 before winning 6-2 6-3 but Brian Richards and Ray Tait were behind at 3-6, 3-6, 4-6. Luke Blackburn and Keith Fairhurst having won 6-0, 6-2 went into the last set needing to win to prevent the visitors getting a draw and emerged with a 6-4 result to see Walmer home by 5 1/2 to 3 1/2.
