BURY Golf Club Senior’s good home form continued this week after a thrilling match against Heysham, at a sun drenched Unsworth Hall.

Mid-table respectability looks likely for the hosts as they racked up their fourth consecutive win on their own track.

With only two away games and five matches at home remaining in the Lancashire County Red Rose League, things are definitely looking up for the Bury side.

Skipper Steve Bracegirdle and Alan Green got Bury off to a flying start with a 4&2 victory over G Legge and P Saunce in the opening game.

John Latham and Jim Hardman earned the home side a third point with a half against P Hampsey and G McAlister. A similar score in game three between Dave Chapman and Nick Lawless and T Shields and T Hare gave Bury a 4-2 lead, with four to play.

Gerry Barnesand Stan Horne ensured match victory with a thrilling last green win over B Knowles and B Cowgill. Despite the visitors recording two late wins, Mike Howarth and Brian Simper’s last green victory over K Whittaker and D Gregson made the final score Bury 8-6 Heysham, moving the home side into eighth positioning the table.

Bury warmed up for the Heysham league fixture with a friendly match at Bolton Lostock. A much-changed Bury side never got to terms with their neighbours losing five of the seven games contested.

John Latham and Alan Green secured a draw with David Hughes and Eddie Heyhurst.

Bury’s only other point was secured when Gerry Barnes and Bob Emmens finished all square with Chris Pilling and Steve Wood.

Bury entertain Hurlston Hall at Unsworth Hall today, 11am start.
