BURY Seniors banished any fears of the wooden spoon and kept alive prospects of a mid-table finish with a comfortable victory against Chorley in the Lancashire County Red Rose League.
Captain Steve Bracegirdle and Dave Partington got the Unsworth Hall side off to a flying start with a 4-2 victory against visiting captain Ian Lewis and Frank Holme.
Vice Captain, John Latham and Gerry Barnes kept up their season-long consistent form in game two, with 4&3 win over Gerry Hyatt and Ian Copeland, to give the home side a 4-0 lead.
Gordon Riley and Geoff Wignall rallied for the visitors in game three, but Brian Simper and Jimmy Hardman held on determinedly to extend the home lead with a 17th hole victory.
Things were equally tight in the next two matches with Stan Horne and Tim Whitehead holding off a rigorous challenge from Ken Yeong and Bob Livingstone at 17 and Ken Pendleton and Mike Howarth going down on the last green after a titanic struggle with Keith Eckersley and Ian Mayor, to leave the match at 8-2 with two games still on the course.
Game six saw the in-form Alan Green and playing partner Brian Little up against Stuart Rickarby and Charlie Hodkins.
The home pairing were in control right from the onset, recording a comfortable 5&4 victory to take Bury to 10 points.
Ray Rosler and Trevor Ince found themselves locked in an ever-changing final game against Dave Howarth and Ken Smith with the home side holding their nerve on the 18th to win the game and the contest.
The result gives Bury a realistic chance of overtaking Deane in the table with two of their remaining three games at home.
