CIARAN Doherty wrapped up the Cleveland Srixon Northern Order of Merit title in style when he won the Trafalgar Trophy at Nelson.
The Bury player, who has led the race for the coveted title for most of the season, strung together 68 and 66 for a six-under-par total and a two-shot margin over Wilpshire’s Joey Lamb.
With only the Ashton Trophy at St Annes Old Links remaining, Doherty cannot be caught and is 325 points ahead of Lancashire team-mate Mark Young whose hopes of a record sixth merit crown have been dashed.
Merit leaders: 1,290pts Ciaran Doherty (Bury); 965 Mark Young (Longridge; 590 Paul McFerran (Childwall); 560 Joe Brice (Manchester); 545 Curtis Clarkin (Nelson); 405 Richie Blundell (Hillside); 385 Ian Hardman (Accrington); 370 Jonathan Hurst (Pleasington); 340 Sean Towndrow (S&A); 315 Sam Prince (Altrincham); 310 John Carroll (Huyton & Prescot); 295 Thomas Gandy (Rowany).
