BURY Hockey Club was named club of the year as the town honoured its sporting heroes at an annual awards ceremony organised by Bury Council in conjunction with the I Will If You Will campaign.

John Burston, of Bury Cycle Speedway, was named coach of the year, while former Bury College pupil Bryn Davies, picked up the award for sports achiever of the year for his triathlon exploits.

The gongs were handed out at an event at Radcliffe Civic Suite last Friday night.

Cllr Rishi Shori, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “These awards remind us what a huge amount of sporting talent there is in Bury, whether in playing, coaching or volunteering.
