THE biggest shock this week in Division One of Bury and District Tennis League was Carlton A’s 8-2 victory over BAE, who were without previously unbeaten Tony Bates.

Gary Newman’s three wins in this match was the outstanding performance.

Paul Brandwood, making his debut for Burning Desire, picked up two wins, as did Ben Armstrong in their 6-4 victory over Little Lever.

League leaders Ramsbottom Town maintained their 100 per cent record with a 6-4 victory against Prestwich A. The best performance came from Brian Clements with three wins, while Radcliffe CC narrowed the gap at the top to four points, with a 9-1 victory.

Bottom team Seedfield A lost 6-4 to Prestwich C despite two wins from David Poytress, whose only defeat was against fellow top-10 man Gabriel Wilding.

Prestwich E joined Coburg as joint leaders in Division Two thanks to their 8-2 victory against their own F team.

Steve Hathaway and Joe Redikin with two wins each lead the top 10 in this division.

The clash of the two Carlton clubs saw the B team coming out on top 7-3 with maximums from both Tommy Ryan and Dave Holden.

Ian Byrne’s three wins helped The Polish Club to a 7-3 victory over Seedfield B. Daniel Olsberg’s three wins for Maccabi A helped his team to a narrow 6-4 win against Midges A.

ELPM A maintained their lead in Division Three after an 8-2 victory against Shawfield B. Top-10 leader Steve Greaves remains unbeaten after another three wins.

Dave Jackson beat Barry Warburton to be the only unbeaten player in Carlton Vale’s 7-3 victory against GSOB. Two wins each from Midges B team players meant a 6-4 win against Seedfield C whose players won one each.

Stuart Carter won all three in Carlton D’s win over Prestwich G.

In Division Four, the two youth teams clashed with Seedfield D winning 9-1 against Oldham TTC’s A team.

Both Holmar teams won 6-4 despite maximums from opponents Scott Fleming for Shawfield E and Frank Sheldon for Maccabi F.

Midges C managed a victory despite being a player short. Confusion reigned in the Shawfield C v ELPM match, where both teams turned up at their home venues.
