A young swimmer from Ramsbottom has clinched a bronze medal in her first ever open swimming competition.

Eleanor Heib, who turns 13-years-old on Saturday (November 29), took part in the Windermere Chillswim and came third in the junior female wetsuit category.

The Year 8 Woodhey High School pupil was the youngest competitor out of the 250 entrants to take part in the event, finishing the 1.2km cross lake swim in 26 minutes.

Eleanor, who regularly swims with Ramsbottom Rascals ASC, has been training at the open swim at Elton Reservoir and is hoping to enter the Coniston End-to-End next year, if she can persuade them to allow her to enter, as the age limit is 15.

The youngster, who is a member of Bury Canoe and Kayak club, has also made swimming the Channel one of her life goals.
