BURY Taekwondo star Oscar Loftus should have his gaze set on winning gold at the English Championships according to coach Claire Searle.
The 13-year-old from Greenmount, who trains at Valley Shukokai karate club, won the boys red belt division at last year’s championships and will now hope to add the Under-15s title to his CV now he competes at black-belt level.
“Oscar went to the championships in Worcester at the end of November and made a massive step-up,” said Bury TAGB owner Searle. “He competed at black belt level and managed to finish in second place.”
The 15th English TAGB Championships start on March 24 in Derby.
The youngster, who also trains in Taekwondo, has also achieved his black belt in martial arts.
“Oscar has gone from strength-to-strength. He took his black belt grading in Bristol and out of the 800 students from the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain taking part, Oscar came in the top five, which was a huge achievement for such a young boy,” said Searle.
The youngster, who regularly competes at competitions all over the country, has won various medals and trophies over the years.
