LANCASHIRE Spinners general manager Ken Masser is hoping the league leaders can take advantage of home comforts in the coming weeks as they aim for promotion from EBL Division Two.

The Bury side secured two victories in a double header weekend against London opponents Westside and United and now head into a run of five homes games in the next seven at Castle Leisure Centre.

The Spinners lead the table by four points over nearest rivals London Lituanica and Ipswich having won 12 of their 14 games, including six out of their seven long-distance fixtures, and Masser believes those mpressive results have put his side in a strong position for the remainder of the campaign.

"It's hard to play when you've been sat in a bus for four, maybe five hours, or on the second day of back-to-back games," he said.

"On top of that, these London teams are tough; they're talented, they're physical and they're experienced.

"To have won all six of our games down in London/ Ipswich is a fantastic achievement.

"I've been so impressed with how the guys have dug in and got results.

"On each of the trips we've also had guys missing due to work commitments and injuries, so I'm really pleased with how well we've travelled so far.

"We've just got one more trip to London on the last day of the season, but for now we have a run of five home games in the next seven, so if we can protect our home court and continue to be competitive on the road, then we'll be in in a great position."

The Spinners started the weekend against London Westside, who, despite having only one win so far this season, had narrowly lost to third-placed Ipswich and fourth-placed Derbyshire in the last two games.

Spinners got off to a great start and led 23-14 at the end of the first quarter on the back of consistent scoring from Steven Gayle and Josh Houghton.

The Spinners extended their lead in the second and third quarter with Aitor Estrada hitting big three pointers. Young athletic forward Kenny Ogunneye and 6'9" Steven Vaughan dominated around the basket to support the Spinners two leading scorers Gayle and Houghton.

Despite a mini come back in the fourth quarter, the Spinners controlled the game to secure a 91-69 win with Houghton and Gayle leading the scoring with 21 apiece and Aitor Estrada adding 18.

On Sunday, the Spinners faced London United who they had beaten fairly convincingly in Lancashire a fortnight ago.

Conor Porter lead the early charge with 10 points in the opening quarter as the Spinners jumped to an early 30-20 lead.

Gayle, Estrada, Porter, Rangeley, Porter and Houghton combined for 21 total three pointers.

London United played hard and fought throughout the game but had no response to the long shooting three point onslaught of Lancashire as they closed out the game 109-85.

Houghton and Gayle led the way with 30 and 19 points respectively, and Mark Rangeley added 17 in the win.

Coach, Steven Gayle was delighted with the double victories: "When you play two games back to back in London, you'd be happy with any kind of win.

"To get two big wins is fantastic. We've really come together as a team and these long trips have really helped us to solidify our team chemistry. We've got a lot of important games to go and we just have to keep taking one game at a time."

The Spinners play Worcester at Castle Leisure Centre on Saturday, tip off 5.40pm, before a cup semi-final away at London Greenhouse Pioneers on Sunday.
