Radcliffe CC moved back to the top of Division One of the Bury Table Tennis League this week despite only beating Prestwich B 6-4.

Duncan Hadfield was the star of the show with three wins, while Seedfield’s only victory in their 9-1 loss to Carlton A came from Pete Mears.

Martin Whyatt’s three wins for Rammy B helped them to beat Burning Desire 6-4.

In Division Two, Prestwich E took full advantage of leaders Coburg’s free week by beating their closest rivals, ELPM A, 8-2 with Naz Ahmed achieving three wins. Prestwich F eased away from the relegation zone with a 6-4 victory over fellow strugglers Seedfield B, with four players in this match recording two wins.

Draws were the flavour of the week in the remaining three matches in the division with Carlton B against The Polish Club, Elton Vale tie with Midges A and Maccabi A's home match with Carlton C all ending 5-5. Only one player, Stuart Landes of Maccabi A, managed three wins in these close encounters.

Division Three is proving very tight at the top and any two from the top five could be promoted. With previous leaders Midges B out of action this week, Seedfield C moved into top place with an 8-2 victory over Carlton D, which included maximums from Alistair McKernan and Chris Hall. Carlton Vale moved level with Midges after a 7-3 win over bottom club Shawfield B. ELPM B’s 7-3 victory over Maccabi C, while Maccabi D’s 9-1 win over Prestwich G keeps them in contention with only 16 points separating all top five clubs.

At the bottom, the outcome is looking a bit more predictable with all the bottom four teams losing this week, and Shawfield B already look doomed 23 points adrift of next bottom Prestwich G.

Holmar A came out on top of the mid-table clash with Shawfield A 6-4, thanks to three wins from Phil Wardle, who is still one win behind averages leader Chris Sutcliffe, who also recorded three wins this week for Carlton Vale.

With Seedfield D 30 points clear at the top of Division Four, the battle for the second promotion place is very tight.

With Holmar C having a free week, their two competitors Shawfield C and ELPM C moved four points ahead of them on 97 points, but Holmar still have a match in hand.

Shawfield C could only manage a 6-4 victory over Maccabi F with the usual three wins from Wayne Ellis, whilst ELPM C enjoyed a convincing 8-2 win over Holmar B, with maximums coming from both John Edge and Debbie Wilson.

The league program in Division Five is split into two parts and the first part is now complete with every team having played each other twice. The teams will now split into the top five and bottom five, and each team will play each other team in their section one more time.

In the final fixtures of the first part of the season BGSOB B beat Holmar D 10-0 to close the gap on leaders Seedfield E who could only manage a 7-3 victory over Wardle B.

In the clash between the Seedfield F and G teams, the junior team came out on top 8-2, while Maz Khan and Malcolm Pelham recorded three wins each in Shawfield F’s 8-2 win over ELPM D and Maccabi G beat OTTC B 9-1 with Oldham’s solitary win coming from Oliver Keane.
