BURY Cycle Speedway Club have been named the North West's club of the year at a British Cycling Go Ride awards ceremony.

With the accolade covering more than 100 cycling clubs from the North West, Yorkshire and the West Midlands, Bury CSC claimed the runners-up spot behind a team from the West Midlands, meaning the Goshen-based club scooped the North West's top prize.

The achievement follows John Burston's coach of the year award in 2013 and Danny Taylor's young volunteer of the year success a year ago.

"This achievement really puts the club in the top tier of cycling clubs as the nominations covered all cycling disciplines not just the specific cycle speedway discipline," said Burston.

"With so many nominations it is a major achievement to do so well.

"Bury CSC officials volunteers and club members have worked so hard to push the club forward over the last two years and to gain this major prestigious award from British Cycling is a fantastic level of recognition by the sports governing body for all the work that has been done."
