YWCA Bury netball club's Premier team travelled to Birchwood to take on Warrington Town in a third against fifth clash last week.

With a disappointing performance against a side they had comprehensively beaten at home earlier in the season, YWCA went down 42-30.

The under-strength Bury side welcomed the return of Louise Crolla after a two-year absence and also gave a debut to young under-15s star Nell.

The game started at a frantic pace with both sides making clumsy mistakes before Crolla landed awkwardly in the attacking third and was carried off in obvious pain. Subsequent scans revealed a torn ACL.

The first quarter ended 12-11 in favour of Warrington and they extended their advantage further to lead 21-15 at half time.

With only seven players in the squad, there was no-one for Bury to call on to change the game, but a number of changes to the positions of those on court did help in the third quarter, which was drawn 9-9. But Bury were unable to keep up the pace in the last quarter.

The Championship team travelled to Birchwood to take on Ena Shaw.

There was a quick start to the game from both teams with the visitors claiming a narrow lead after the first quarter.

The match remained close throughout the second quarter with the half ending 24-all.

Bury upped their game in the third and fourth quarters to seal a 58-34 victory to keep them in contention for a play-off position.

Elia McCormick picked up the player-of-the-match award for an excellent defensive display.
