Local rider Nige ‘Pitty’ Pitt took on a competitive field in the opening weekend of the Thundersport GB season held at Donington Park.

In very wet conditions, Pitty qualified for the first race in 31st place and with the work done on his Triumph 675 Daytona motorbike just days before, he was in confident spirits heading into the first ace.

After a great start and an intense battle with two other riders throughout the race, Pitty was unable to make a push further up and finished in his starting position of 31st.

Race two saw a very similar story for Pitty, battling throughout the race, swapping places regularly all the way to the flag, this time losing out a little and finishing 32nd.

The Grid positions for Sunday’s races were determined by the best lap times throughout Saturday, which put Pitty back into 34th place but in windy conditions he hung on at the end to finish in a credible 26th place.

Weather conditions continued to plague riders in race four but Pitty managed to get up to 18th at one point. He then suffered a big slide on lap 6, resulting in a short trip across the grass and mud, where he then rejoined the track in 20th which is where he finished.

Overall, it was a solid start to the season in what is proving to be an even more competitive Championship than last year.

Pitt's next race meeting takes place over the weekend of May 16-17.
