BURY Seniors continued their record breaking away form in the Lancashire County Red Rose League with a magnificent six-point haul from the long trip to Heysham.
With twice the points of any other team, on their travels, Bury got off to a great start when captain John Latham and in-form partner, Dave Bell refused to bow to relentless pressure from home skipper Graham Bradbury and Peter Savage to turn a three-hole deficit into a dramatic last putt victory.
Jim Pilkington and P A Dawson however had no answer to the blistering golf of J Kelly and B Katlow, who took the second game five and four.
Next up were the impressive pairing of Stuart Hindley and Ged Eckersley, who edged Bury ahead in the match with a 3&2 win against P Hampsey and J Leamon, but the Seasiders hit back to level when T Young and T Hurst saw off Ted Foster and Mike Howarth 4&3. Sid Hyams and Glyn Evans were comprehensively beaten 5&4 and Ray Rosler and Rick Boyd lost a tight tussle on the 18th to R Kirkman and R Minnery.
Bury’s final pairing of Steve Bracegirdle and Denny McKinstry stopped the rot with a fine 3&2 victory against B Knowles and G Bird to make the final match score Heysham 8 Bury 6.
The result leaves Bury in fourth place on 55pts, five behind Deane and Fishwick Hall and a further seven behind runaway leaders, Hurlston Hall.
