A DEPLETED Bury side made short work of Men's Summer League leaders Springfields as James Oakes grabbed all four goals.

Missing Tariq Sheikh, Simon Major, Sameer Sheikh and James Larmett, Bury were pleased to welcome Ian Hillary back into midfield, with his all-action display helping Bury to dominate the game.

The pick of the goals saw the midfield slice through the Springfields defence as Hillary, Piers Smith-Hughes and Toby Carr-Brown’s fluent passing played Oakes in at the far post for a simple finish.

This is an encouraging result for Bury who now take on Lytham aiming to cement their place in the top three positions.

The mixed summer league saw Bury lose their opening fixture 3-2 in a tight game against Golborne with the match settled by a controversial goal.

Bury went 1-0 down midway through the first half, before Sameer Sheikh levelled the scores on the stroke of half time as he turned in a rebound from a penalty corner.

The second half started well for Bury as Peter Wragg and Helen Beard combined to play in Adam Johnson who fired the ball into the bottom corner.

However Golborne mounted a come back and levelled the scores with ten minutes to go. Bury then pushed for the winning goal, creating several chances, one of which should have led to the award of a penalty corner following an infringement. With the umpire allowing play to continue, Bury were caught short at the back. Golborne counter attacked and an impressive lifted finish sealed the result.
