IN a close run game, Brown Cow A eased into the third round of the Ashworth Cup with victory against Elton Vale C.

The teams in third and fifth place respectively in Division One of the Bury Rounders League played out a competitive knockout out tie at Newbank Warthfold.

Work commitments meant a depleted Elton Vale team played with just 10 players and Brown Cow's numerical advantage eventually proved the difference in an 119-108 victory.

And although disappointed to be on the losing side, Elton Vale captain Karen Hastie was pleased with her team's performance.

"The real positive thing for us is that we were a player short but still only lost by 11 runs," she said.

"At this level it's quite difficult to play with 10 players. The high standard of the division means that one player makes all the difference.

"It was a tight game and although we are obviously disappointed that we lost, I was also pleased with the way the team performed.

"We are young side and it's only our second season in the division. We seem to be settling down and holding our own, which bodes well for the rest of the season."
