BURY Comets have finished as runners-up in all three divisions of the Northern League and have also clinched second place in the Fours’ League by winning the Northern Grand Prix.

The Comets completed a long season in style with a triple victory against Hull a fortnight ago.

Their depleted East Yorkshire opponents were without their three-time British Champion talisman Andy Angell and Bury took full advantage, despite missing Kris Ramsden through illness and Neil Howarth with an injury.

The Division One match saw the Comets take maximum race win after maximum race win.

Will Owens impressed with an untroubled 20 while Chris Parish, Ben Scranage and James Elston also took maximum scores in the 119-60 win.

Bury: Will Owens 20 (from five rides), Chris Parish 19+1 (5), James Elston 18+2 (5), Danny Taylor 18 (5), Ben Scranage 16+4 (5), Adam Turnbull 13+4 (5), Steve Mann 8+1(3), Adam Taylor 7+1(3).

Division Two saw a similar result when Hull were once again put to the sword.

Bury scored nine maximum 7-3 race wins in the 15 heats to claim a 96-51 victory.

Home star Danny Taylor and Hull’s Nathan Everett were both riding in what is most likely to be their last fixture at this level and both fought hard for the points throughout.

Adam Turnbull continued the excellent team riding that has been a feature of his Division Two racing this year. The heat 14 work with Kaysar Mohammadi was of particular note. Steve Mann also made a return to form working well in all four of his rides.

Sean Etheridge and Harry Radford stepped up from the Division Three side, a move that may become more permanent next season. So it was James Elston and Danny Taylor who rode to a final race maximum over Nathan Everett, which sealed the comfortable victory.

Bury: James Elston 17+3 (5), Kaysar Mohammadi 17+1 (5), Danny Taylor 15+1(4), Steve Mann 14+2 (4), Adam Taylor 13 (4), Adam Turnbull 8+3 (4), Sean Etheridge 8 (2), Harry Radford 4+1 (2).

The day concluded with another mammoth Division Three fixture, as has been the case with each of Bury’s recent matches.

This time 22 riders were in action, with Kaysar Mohammadi, Louis Turner, Danny Miller and Sean Etheridge all confirming their class at this level in a 207-24 victory.

Bury: Kaysar Mohammadi 16 (4), Louis Turner 15 (4), Danny Miller 15 (4) and Sean Etheridge 15 (4).

With training and track work now taking precedence before the round of AGMs and possibly some indoor racing, Bury are back in outdoor league action next March.

Training sessions continue on Tuesday (early evening) and Saturday mornings, all are welcome.
