BURY Ladies' second team produced the performance of the weekend to climb into second place in Division Three.

Lorna Wroe grabbed four goals in the 7-1 win against Didsbury Greys on Sunday as the Castlebrook side continue to shock the league following last season’s promotion.

Wroe, who has now scored seven goals in her last two games, opened the scoring with a close range finish after just 11 minutes, before winger Sophie Foreman swept in at the far post to double the advantage.

As Didsbury struggled to handle Bury's pace and passing, Wroe worked her way past three defenders to convert another close range goal before Didsbury managed to pull a goal back just before half time.

The second period saw Bury take complete control as Wroe sealed her hat-trick, sweeping in a fantastic right-wing move, before winger Helen Beard got on the scoresheet with a clever reverse finish.

There was still time for Wroe to grab a deflected fourth following another scramble in the circle, before Beard rounded the scoring off with her second of the game as she coolly picked her spot following a rebound from a short corner strike from Rachel Bailey.

The Ladies' first team lost 3-0 at home to high-flying City of Manchester.

The Castlebrook side found themselves a goal down after 15 minutes but responded well with good goalkeeping from Megan Klyomwec.

The home side piled on the pressure in the second period with Beth Topping, Livvy Barber and Jennifer Matthews leading wave after wave of attack.

But unfortunately the visiting keeper was in fine form, and Bury were hit on the counter as they conceded two late goals.

Meanwhile the Ladies' third team, who were without captain Claire Makin, were unable to reproduce last week’s heroic effort as they fell to a 4-0 defeat at home to Seddons on Saturday.
