YWCA Bury made it two good performances on the bounce, but unlike the previous weekend's defeat against North West Senior Premier League leaders Oldham, they were rewarded with a deserved victory.

Bury were without Rachel Newbold, who had to withdraw due to an ankle injury sustained in training, for the match against Deeside.

This meant a re-shuffle by trainer Ruth Moreno, who moved the impressive Lois Pearson forward from centre to goal attack, and welcomed back Jenny Cross into centre after her absence last week.

The new combinations took a little time to gel in the first quarter, and the lead ebbed and flowed between the two teams.

Deeside looked set to end the period with a one-goal lead before goal shooter Clare Morley, who was named player of the match, sunk a penalty on the whistle to level the game up at 13-13.

Bury started impressively in the second quarter, with goal keeper Anna Ballard and Tyrene Karim, in goal defence, started to get to grips with the quick and accurate Deeside circle attack.

Bury opened up a five-goal advantage but were slowly pegged back following some sloppy passing and unforced errors, leading to the home team going into the half time break two goals down.

Moreno introduced Leah Gillespie to wing defence in the third quarter, replacing Sascha Eady, and the change seemed to rattle Deeside, with the hosts quickly pegging back the deficit and moving ahead to again lead by five goals going into the final 15 minutes.

Gillespie moved forward to wing attack in the final quarter as Lucy Lucketti, who had dominated the centre with quick movement and controlled passing, moved to the bench and Eady returned to wing defence.

Bury's fresher legs, accurate shooting and a succession of turnovers in defence combined to move the home team further ahead in the final quarter, ending up as victors by 55 goals to 41.
