MARK Rangeley set a new season-high of 24 points as Lancashire Spinners rallied from a 10-point deficit to win 100-96 at Bradford Dragons on Saturday.

Connor Murtagh – one of six Spinners who scored in double-digits – added 19 points to help the Castle Leisure Centre-based basketball club end a three-game losing streak.

Trailing 54-44 in the second quarter, Lancashire used an 11-2 run over a 2mins 14secs stretch to cut the advantage to a point before Rangeley broke a 61-61 deadlock after the break to give his team the lead for good.

The Spinners shot 50 per cent for the game and reduced their turnovers to just 11, having made 43 over the last three games.

It was the second-straight game Rangeley led the team in scoring, and third overall this season, after the forward recorded 19 points in the previous weekend's loss to Hemel Storm.

Steven Gayle, who had been dropped from the starting line-up, provided a necessary spark in the second quarter.

He made four of his first five shots and scored eight-straight points to finish with 15 in 19 minutes. The guard was three-of-four on three-pointers.

The loss broke the momentum Bradford had gained in consecutive wins over Westminster and Tees Valley.

After three-straight defeats for the Spinners, including being knocked out of Basketball England’s National Trophy, the Bury side understood the importance of a win against Bradford.

“We took the negatives from our previous three results and made ourselves accountable,” said Spinners coach Neal Hopkins.

It was the fourth-straight game in which Lancashire were required to rally from at least a 10-point deficit and the first it succeeded in finishing the job.

“I said last week we needed two wins before the Christmas break,” said Rangeley, who scored 16 points in the opening 10 minutes on Saturday.

“Now, our spirits are high – you can’t replace seeing the ball go through the basket.”

All but one player – Steve Vaughan – contributed at least a point in the win, including Cian Hickey, who added nine assists to go along with six points in a career-high 37 minutes of game-time.
