YWCA Bury enjoyed a 53-45 win at Deeside in the NW Premiership on Sunday despite having a threadbare squad.

After pushing league leaders Oldham all the way the previous week and narrowly losing by one goal in the final second, Bury looked to continue their form against lowly Deeside.

Due to other commitments, Bury were only able to field a team of squad players, meaning they had no substitutes and little room for error.

Bury took an early lead as continued turnovers by the defensive unit allowed the attack to keep the goals ticking over, creating a healthy five-goal lead at quarter time.

Manager Ruth Moreno was able to utilise the flexibility of some players on court by shuffling the team around.

Bury’s determination paid off and they never allowed Deeside, who are bottom of the table, an opportunity to get back level.

Notable performances across the court ensured Bury clinched victory, with centre-court player Lucy Lucketti named player of the match after an energetic 60 minutes.

Bury’s season finishes this weekend with a rearranged fixture away to Tameside, when they will look to secure a third-place finish having narrowly missed out on securing a play-off place to the National League.
