BURY Golf Club’s women’s team have started the season in inspirational form after storming into the fourth round of the Mail on Sunday National Team KO with wins against Greenmount and Lowes Park.
The club has recently welcomed an influx of 50 new female members and the hard work behind the scenes has been mirrored on the course.
After being given a bye in the opening round of the National Team KO, Bury proved convincing 4-1 winners against Greenmount in round two.
The match was switched to Unsworth Hall due to adverse conditions at Greenmount.
Vice captain Amanda Hassall, Annette Gale, Linda Emery and Anne Fisher made home advantage count, all recording comfortable victories. The performance of the day, however, came from Bury youngster Chloe Marsh, who despite giving her opponent a staggering 13 shots took the match to the 17th green before agonisingly falling 2&1.
Bury went on to claim a 3-1 victory against neighbours Lowes Park in the third round.
Andrea Holt gave Bury a great start, winning 3&1 despite giving her opponent 10 shots start.
Janet Wild took the second game 3&2 off -5 and Gale halved the third to put Bury in a strong position with two matches on the course.
Fisher was beaten by the Lowes Park number one, but Hassall halved the last game to win the tie.
Things looked grim for Hassall going down the 17th one down but she came through after winning the final two holes.
Bury ended a successful fortnight by claiming a 4&3 victory over Fairfield in the Bell Cup.
