HOLCOMBE Brook Sports Club is inviting families bitten by the tennis bug to take part in a new competition.

If Andy Murray's second Wimbledon title and Great Britain's subsequent Davies Cup victory has inspired you and your children then the Quorn Family Cup if offering the opportunity to take to the court.

Holcombe Brook SC, in Hazel Lane, is hosting the first round of the national tournament on Saturday, from 1pm.

It is a doubles competition, with each pair including a junior aged 11 to 18 (born between September 1, 1997 to August 31, 2005) and an adult family member born on or before August 31, 1997.

Players do not have to be a member of a tennis club and can be same or mixed gender.

The tournament is £4 to enter, with matches held in a round-robin format, feeding into knockout rounds.

The winning pair will go on to compete in one of eight regional rounds, which will take place on Sunday, September 25, with the national finals due to be held at the National Tennis Centre in London on Saturday and Sunday, October 22-23.

To find out more, email head tennis coach Tom Lemon at hbsctennis@gmail.com.

Lemon has overseen a successful summer of tennis already at Holcombe Brook.

On the day Murray won Wimbledon, junior player Ian Axford was busy booking his own, all-expenses paid trip to play at SW19.

He won a regional play-off to compete against other qualifiers on the All England Club courts later in the year.

Fellow Holcombe Brook Junior Natalie Flinn also achieved national success after winning the 14 and under doubles title at the G2 Scottish Junior Open Championship alongside partner Jayanne Palma.

Lemon has also been busy running a host of children's courses in a bid to help families engage with the sport, with the likes of British Davis Cup captain Leon Smith visiting over the summer to lend a hand.

The hope is more families from the area will take the chance to see what Holcombe Brook has to offer by taking part in this weekend's Quorn Family Cup.
