BURY Trampoline Club is earning a reputation on the national stage for giving it's youngsters a springboard for success.

Former members Alex Bradshaw, aged 18, of Bolton, and Gracie Bagguley, 12, of Whitefield, both recently won double gold in the individual and synchro disciplines in their age groups at the British Championships.

The youngsters started out at Bury before graduating to bigger clubs, with Alex now training at City of Salford and Gracie honing her skills at City of Liverpool, where Bury coach June Short also works. They have also gone on to earn selection for the British team.

While Short's coaching is in demand across the North West, she spends most of her time with recruits at her Bury base, at Castle Leisure Centre.

And her protege there have also been busy this summer, reaping the rewards of their training at the National Development Plan Trampolining and Tumbling Finals in Telford recently.

Mia Linaker-Walsh, 12, of Whitefield, who also trains at both Liverpool and Bury, excelled in Telford, qualifying for the tournament in eighth place by working hard to improve the height and difficulty of her routines in the intervening period to be crowned national Level 8 champion in the 13 to 14 age category.

Her younger sister Maisie, 10, matched Mia's achievement to win the Level 5 title in the nine to 10 age category.

Three more Bury trampoline gymnasts qualified for the NDP finals.

Lucy Chandler, 12, of Ramsbottom finished fifth and Oscar Milner, nine, of Brandlesholme, was sixth, both in Level 3.

John McManus, 21, of Whitefield, who also coaches at Bury TC, won silver in Level 8 in the 19+ age group.

Bury TC runs two sessions a week, Wednesday and Friday, at Castle Leisure Centre in Bury.
