MOTHER and daughter Lisa and Lucy Rose showed they are a family not to be messed with after winning silver medals at the Taekwondo World Championships in Birmingham.

The Tottington duo both finished runners-up in sparring events, which involves semi-contact, high-energy fighting.

Lucy, aged 11, also exhibited her skill, focus and body control to win bronze in a Taekwondo Pattern event.

The event was arranged by the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain (TAGB), which is the largest martial arts organisation in the world.

The TAGB World Championships is considered to be one of the largest and best-coordinated competitions of its kind.

Worldwide, TAGB has more than 25,000 accredited members and thousands turned up to compete or watch the championships at the Barclaycard Arena.

This was not Lisa's first Taekwondo success story.

The 39-year-old, who recently gave up a 16-year career as a primary school teacher to set up a Dogs for Dogs kennels in Wigan, is a former national gold medallist in the Olympic sport.
