BOLTON Olympic Wrestling Club made a big impression on the continent during a recent tour to Holland.

A group of four young wrestlers made the trip with coach Lee Meadows and came home with a raft of medals to show for their efforts.

Harry Meadows, Nathan Livesey and Stefan Gradwell all won gold at the NK Open Beach Wrestling Championships, run as part of an "Olympic experience" at Scheveningen beach.

Charlie Meadows then joined the young medal winners to compete at the De Halter Utrecht dual inter-club competition with some great performances.

Not to be outdone by his team-mate, young Charlie picked up the best wrestler award, chosen by the hosts.

Lee Meadows said: "I was really impressed by how they competed against some strong European competitors. They are all a real credit to our club and the town of Bolton."

Bolton Olympic Wrestling Club is based in Wigan Road and has been running since 1908.

The club's most famous wrestler, Albert Aspen, competed at the 1960 and 1964 Olympic Games, and went on to coach the British team at the Olympics in 1968 and 1976. He also won bronze medals at three consecutive Commonwealth Games, between 1958 and 1966.

His son Brian took on the mantle, winning gold at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, as well as bronze medals at the 1978 and 1986 Games. He also competed in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.

More recently, club member Craig Pilling won bronze for Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
