YWCA Bury were edged out 42-40 at Warrington in their opening game of the North West Region Premier League season.
The two sides were never separated by more than three points throughout the full 60 minutes, with the lead continually changing hands in what was a feisty encounter.
Recently appointed Bury coach Rob McKee made a number of tactical changes to challenge the experience of the Warrington side.
Elia McCormick, Chloe Addis and Tyrene Karim formed a solid defence in the circle.
Michelle Carroll returned following a lengthy injury lay-off and she linked up well with Imogen Turner in the shooting circle.
Dani Bloomfield played a fantastic anchor role in the centre court providing some experience alongside Jenny Cross, while Meg Burns showed promise and stability on her debut in the attack.
The match also gave opportunities for Nell Clerkin, Olivia Bailey and Lauren Tattersall to enjoy a first taste of Premier League netball and they all showed potential for the coming season.
The two sides went into half time level, but despite several turnovers the experience of the Warrington side proved that bit too much as they hung on for victory.
Their next match is at home to Deeside on Sunday, October 23, starting at 10am.
