YMCA Bury got off the mark in the North West Premier League with a 65-36 victory over Deeside in their opening home match of the campaign.
Defeat in a closely-fought opener at Warrington ensured both teams took to the court at Bury Grammar School looking for their first win.
But it was a young Bury side that took control of the encounter, once Elia McCormick and Sarah Ramwell started to make key turnovers in the defensive circle.
Imogen Turner and Millie Roscoe punished Deeside's attacking errors with some very accurate shooting and Jenny Cross and Dani Bloomfield bossed the centre court to keep Bury on top throughout.
The defensive duo of McCormick and Ramwell shared the player of the match award as Bury moved up to fifth place in the table.
Bury's Championship team also enjoyed a good day at the office, winning 57-31 at Newman to go top in Group A.
The starting seven got off to a flying start and gained a solid lead with brilliant feeds into the circle from Kirsty Bloomfield.
Their performance was built on teamwork, with turnovers from Lauren Doughty in the defending circle, Eliza Morgan taking the ball down court and a steady performance from Kate Etchells in the shooting circle helping their game to flow nicely.
Stass Kurpas and Georgia Hinchliffe took centre court in the third quarter, with an amazing defensive performance from Tess Richardson helping Bury maintain a lead going into the final quarter.
Newman came back into it late in the game, but a strong defensive unit of Emily Carter and Hannah Wallwork secured a 26-point victory.
