RAMSBOTTOM United will entertain Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division side Redditch United in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy after knocking out Prescot Cables at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

A stoppage-time goal from Prescot's James McCulloch proved to be a mere consolation on what was a relatively comfortable afternoon for Rammy.

A goal in each half from Ryan Salmon and Gareth Seddon was enough to seal their progress against their Evo-Stik First Division North rivals.

Joint-manager Mark Fell welcomed another home draw, following an earlier win at the Riverside against Sheffield, but accepts they will have to up their levels against a side that just missed out on promotion to Conference North last season.

"After getting through two rounds you expect to come across a side from the league above," said Fell.

"We know Redditch will be strong opposition, particularly with them on the verge of the Conference North last season before defeat in the play-offs.

"We will do our homework, prepare properly and try to give ourselves the best opportunity to progress.

"They've had an indifferent start this term but will still be strong favourites.

"However, on our day we're confident we can cause an upset, especially in front of a partisan crowd at the Riverside.

"It's a test we're certainly looking forward too."

Grant Spencer was once again at the heart of things against Prescot, pulling the strings in the Rammy midfield, while Salmon was outstanding leading the line up front.

Salmon capitalised on his own great cross, pouncing to sidefoot home the rebound on 30 minutes after visiting keeper Tom Brocklehurst had spilled Seddon's header.

While Rammy dominated the tie, they made their fans wait another 30 minutes before for the second goal.

Seddon had earlier missed two chances after being put through on goal by Spencer, shinning the first wide from a narrow angle then fluffing an attempted chip over the out-rushing Brocklehurst.

But his frustration turned to joy midway through the second half when he twisted to connect with a hard-hit cross from Brad Roscoe, sending a header from almost the edge of the box, swerving and dipping into the corner.

Prescot were let back into the game after Spencer was withdrawn through injury, but the visitors were unable to find a way through until the fourth minute of time added on, when McCulloch seized on a moment of indecision to rob debutant keeper Charlie Albinson of a deserved clean sheet.

Rammy's tie against Redditch United in the next round will be played on Saturday, November 12, kick off 3pm.
