LANCASHIRE Spinners' winning run ended with a bump as they lost both matches in last weekend's double header.

They were soundly beaten, 82-59, at home to Derby Trailblazers on Saturday before returning empty-handed from Sunday's long trip to Reading after crashing to a 96-72 defeat.

All five Derby starters scored in double figures as the Trailblazers came out on top in the rematch of last season’s National League play-off quarter-final.

Connor Murtagh led the scoring for the Spinner with 16 points, as the Bury-based team struggled with their shooting at Castle Leisure Centre.

Lancashire missed their first four shots before finally finding their range and went on to take an early 7-0 lead.

But Derby battled back to end the opening quarter trailing by just two points.

The Spinners hit just three field goals in the second quarter, which included a scoring drought of nearly eight minutes, as the visitors took charge of the match to lead 28-19 at half time.

Murtagh converted a lay-up inside four minutes of the restart to cut the deficit to eight points, but the Spinners would not get any closer, eventually losing by 23 points

Spinners coach Neal Hopkins praised 17-year-old Zion Tordoff’s performance in an otherwise difficult road trip to Reading.

Tordoff, who missed four games in October with an ankle injury, finished with a season-high 14 points.

“He needed a big game,” said Hopkins, whose team was without three of their regular players.

Aitor Estrada missed his sixth-straight game and forwards David Ulph and Mike Bernard were also absent.

Reading’s Chris Hooper scored 30 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to power them home.

Despite five players reaching double figures and 18 offensive rebounds, Lancashire never led and trailed 52-35 at half time.

The Spinners managed to cut their deficit to just six points with six minutes remaining, but Reading outscored the visitors 20-4 to close out the game.

Jack Hudson added 13 points, 11 rebounds and four assists in the loss.
