BURY men's first team continued their fine form of recent weeks, making it three wins in a row after claiming a 1-0 victory at Ormskirk, who started the day third in Division Three North of the North West Men's League.

Adam Friend scored the only goal 15 minutes from the end of what was a bruising encounter.

The visitors were indebted to keeper Chris Goldsbrough early on, as he produced a fine one-on-one stick save.

Bury gradually gained the upper hand as Ormskirk's discipline deserted them but they were unable to find the killer touch and the match was scoreless at the break.

The game became increasingly fractious in the second half, while Ormskirk threatened at short corners and Bury were dangerous on the break.

It was through a swift counter attack that they found the winner, Simon Major and James Larmet combining to feed Jack Marshall-Grint, who showed good close control under pressure before finding Friend's perfectly-timed run at the far post.

Despite losing centre-back Ahti Khan for a five-minute sin bin, Bury stood firm to claim all three points and move up to sixth in the table.

The men's second-team, meanwhile, won 7-1 at home against Leigh to remain second in Division Six North South.

Adam Johnson opened the scoring early on for the home side and they dominated proceedings from there on in.

Sameer Sheikh double the lead shortly after and Johnson added two more goals before half time to claim his third hat-trick of the season.

Chris Lowe's deft deflection finished off a superb team move to keep the scoreboard ticking over in the second half before Andrew Foster and Sam Plant completed the rout.

The ladies' first team, who are top of Division Two in the Greater Manchester Hockey Association, dumped Division One side Heaton out of the All Divisions Cup.

Their 3-0 aggregate win followed a fine display of passing which showed they could well hold their own in the top tier.

After starting with a one-goal advantage, strikes from Paula Evans and Kerry Cameron underlined their dominance, setting up a quarter-final tie against either Oldham or Prescot, who are both North League sides.

The ladies' seconds also march on in the All Divisions Plate after beating Stockport Bramhall on penalty strokes.

Lorna Wroe’s 10th goal of the season and two far-post finishes from Kate Howard helped Bury to a 3-3 draw at the end of normal time.

Hania Nicholson proved unbeatable in the Bury goal in the penalty stroke shootout, while goals from Helen Beard and Emma Brown secured a quarter-final tie against Didsbury Northern.

The ladies' third team were unable to make it a clean sweep for the club, losing 3-2 at home to league leaders Little Lever A.
