LANCASHIRE Spinners are considering their options as they weigh up whether to return to Bury next season after securing their place in Division One of the National Basketball League.

The team struggled following the departure of team manager Ken Masser early in the campaign and, with no-one left to arrange matchdays, they recently switched their home games to Myerscough College, near Preston.

Yet relegation was averted following a dramatic late win against fellow strugglers Essex Leopards on Sunday, with David Walsh hitting the decisive basket in the 83-82 victory as the buzzer sounded.

Victory moved Spinners up to fourth bottom, while Essex replaced them in the relegation places.

It is understood a new matchday committee will now be set up to oversee the smooth running of games next season.

It is not clear whether that will mean a return to Bury, but that is one of the options being considered, with the hope that strong support in the town and the bigger venue can inspire the players to push for play-off contention next season.

Meanwhile, Bury Bluedevils host Premier Division leaders Blackpool Lights next Friday as they bid to stave off relegation from the top tier of the Manchester Area Basketball League.

With three matches remaining they are second bottom and go into the match on the back of a 74-64 defeat to fourth-placed Free City.
