YWCA Bury beat visitors Chester 64-40 in the final game of the season to win the league.

Bury topped the North West Championship League Group A table but knew a win for second-placed Chester would see them snatch the title.

Although Beth Doughty was making good drives and working well with Megan Burns Bury were 15-12 down at the first break.

Changes in the second quarter saw the Bury side take the lead and go into half time 32-23 ahead.

After a few changes Ella Hewitt’s rebounds and strong drives from Chloe Addis gave the home side more confidence and they worked the ball round the court well, extending their lead to 44-30 at the final interval.

In the last quarter wing attack Maria Edmondson on her debut offered some rapid feeds into the circle while player-of-the-match Addis was outstanding with several flying interceptions in an excellent partnership with Hewitt who continued to claim rebounds from missed shots.

Meanwhile, Imogen Turner was proving lethal at the net and Bury took the win.
