BURY must win away at Stand Golf Club in the second round of the Bell Cup if they are to make it to the final, which will be played on their home course of Unsworth Hall.

The Bell Cup is the blue-riband event of the Manchester and District Ladies Golf Association, with nearly 90 clubs from across the region seeing their best seven players in a terrific match-play knockout competition.

Bury will host finals day of the Bell Cup as the home club of this year's MDLGA president Audrey Bird.

It will be held on September 1 and will include the semi-finals and final.

The preliminary round and round one have been completed and it is now down to the last 32 clubs, with holders Dean Wood making an early exit being beaten 4&3 by Wilpshire.

The other two ties featuring local clubs will see Walmersley host Birchwood and Greenmount travel to Romiley.

In the Manchester and District Golf Alliance, Pike Fold pro Grant Hamerton produced a cracking round of 66 to win the prize for best score on President's Day, which was played at Marriott Worsley Park.

President's Day is the traditional finale of the winter season, with Worsley Park stepping in at the last minute to stage the event after planned hosts Bramhall had to back out due to building work.

It was a stroke of good luck for Hamerton, who has a enjoyed a great run of success on what is one of his favourite local courses.
