GREENHILL Primary School pupil Jessica Heyes is on a roll after scoring a glittering medal haul in recent national artistic roller skating championships.

The nine-year-old Bury skater claimed three gold medals and two silver to underline her status as one of the top skaters in the country in her "tots" age category.

Her latest success came at the British Free and Figure Skating Championships in Kettering, where Jessica won the free and combined titles and was runner-up in the figure event.

That followed a dance silver and couples' dance gold at the British Dance Skating Championships in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, just a few weeks before.

Jessica has been hooked on the sport since the age of five, when she as invited to a skating party with her older sister Lauren.

She now trains three times a week with Bolton Artistic Roller Skating Club at Kearsley Academy in Bolton, under the guidance of club founder and coach Nina Asquith.

Jessica’s mum, Debbie, said: “She just seemed like a natural, within just a few minutes of having skates on for the first time she was skating round the rink.

“Because Jessica enjoyed skating so much we decided to get her some lessons and I cannot thank Nina enough for how much she has helped her develop.

"We are absolutely delighted and proud of her achievements.”

Jessica plans to compete in two more national events in Kent and South Wales this summer before skating in her club's own open championships in September, at Smithills Sports Centre in Bolton.

Debbie added: "A number of Jessica's older club-mates have also won national honours and gone on the represent the country in international competitions on the Continent, which is something Jessica would love to do one day."
