RAMSBOTTOM Running Club is holding its inaugural event next month – a summer mile and 1km fun run.

The club has recently been awarded £1,000 by Tesco as part of its “Bags of Help” scheme and that money will help pay for the event, which will be held in Nuttall Park on Tuesday, August 8.

“The club is all about inclusivity and sociable running, encouraging people to get their trainers on again after a break, return to running or perhaps run more regularly in a really supportive environment,” said chairman Rowan Ardill.

“The Ramsbottom Summer Mile and 1K Fun Run are both going to be events that harness that same ethos.

“We want to encourage runners from all backgrounds to join us for the race.”

Entries to the Summer Mile will be capped at 150 and cost £5 for affiliated club runners and £7 for those without a club. All runners will receive a special-edition Summer Mile Ale from local microbrewery Ramsbottom Craft Brewery.

The 1K Fun Run is open to children aged four to 15 years. Both events start at 5.30pm and all finishers will receive a medal.
