BURY Comets suffered a disappointing end to their season as they lost all three matches at Astley and Tyldesley in the final fixture of the regular Northern League season.

They went down 96-81 in the Division One match and 109-44 in Division Three, but it was much closer in the Division Two battle, which was a title decider.

The two sides had exchanged places at the top of the table throughout the season.

Bury had easily beaten Team Green early in the year, but unfortunately dropped key points during the summer, leaving everything to play for in the final match showdown at Gin Pit.

 After a series of close shared races, Bury took the lead as when Adam Taylor and Kaysar Mohammadi secured a 7-3 victory, but Astley struck back to win the next race 6-4.

It remained nip and tuck Bury's national under-12s champion Harry Radford was lapped in heat 14, which left Bury needing a maximum heat win in the final race.

Despite every effort from the club's top scoring duo of Adam Taylor and Adam Turnbull, it was not to be as the Comets went down 77-72.

The results ensured Bury finished second in both Division Two and Three, and third in Division One.

The end-of-season regional play-off, hosted at Gin Pit, went to form with Astley and Tyldesley beating Stockport by three points and Bury trailing in third, Taylor top scoring for the Comets.

Taylor capped a superb season with a double victory in Bury's individual championships, winning both the senior and junior titles.

He ended Kris Ramsden's run of victories in the senior competition by winning a run-off after both riders had scored 19 points.

Will Owens made no mistake in the third-place run-off against veteran Neil Howarth, required as the pair had finished level on 17.  

Turnbull and Louis Turner finished second and third respectively in the junior competition, with Harry Radford closing out the u13s' championship.
