GFC Muay Thai fighter Lewis George is on a roll after claiming his seventh British title with an 11th straight win.

Despite being just 12 years old, the youngster has become a role model at the Bury Thai boxing club, which is based in Cobden Street.

He has won more titles – nine in total – than any other fighter at GFC Muay Thai, which offers classes for both adults and juniors, as well as circuit training.

Lewis's seventh British title came at the Sandee Scottish Open, just a fortnight after he had claimed his sixth at a big international show in Birmingham.

He was forced to move up a weight category to get a fight, and was forced to take on a much bigger opponent from Newcastle.

But despite the size difference he put in a mature performance to take a convincing points win.

Lewis's nine title takes him past instructor Luke Phillips and the gym's former world champion adult fighter Andy Thrasher.

He even has more than former world champion boxer Scott Quigg had when he competed for the gym at the start of his fighting career.

Phillips said: "It’s testament not just to Lewis's skills but also to the hard work he puts in and his mental strength.

"After 10 fights Lewis's record stood at five wins and five losses.

"Now, after 21 fights, he still only has five defeats on his record, which means he has not only picked up more titles than anyone else here, but his winning streak of 11 fights is probably also the longest the gym has had.

"Lewis learned lessons from his early defeats and now is one of the most dedicated members we have ever had."

The youngsters now hopes to join gym-mate Lewis Bentley to become a European champion when he next steps into the ring in November at the International Open in Barnsley.

The gym picked up another win in Scotland with Mackenzie McLean, who won on points, while Anthony Hammer drew and Zaine Mehtab lost on points.
