BURY Golf Club had two big successes this week after Ciaran Doherty won the Northern Order of Merit and Andrea Holt claimed Nahum Cup victory.

Doherty finished 11th in the penultimate competition of the season at Bolton Old Links on Saturday before clinching his second title in four years with a third-placed finish at the Pendle Witch in Clitheroe on Sunday.

The strong finish put the Bury man 80 points clear of his closest challenger Cameron Massey, of Northenden, following a tit-for-tat battle all season.

Holt made it a winning double for the club in the Nahum Cup – one of the most historic and prestigious trophies played for an the local women’s golf scene.

Playing off an eight handicap, she went round the course at Manchester Golf Club – the Nahum Cup’s annual host – in 75 for a winning nett score of 67.

Bev Scholes, of Rochdale, was second on nett 74, beating Stand’s Angie Howarth on a card play-off.
